Comets' captain Craig Cook has talked up Workington’s chances of outgunning bottom side Berwick Bandits on their travels this weekend.

Comets visit Berwick on Saturday (7pm start) looking to make it five wins in a row and Cook believes they are more than capable of hitting that target.

“Our top five is doing really well and Matt Williamson at reserve is flying, so I think we’ve got every chance of going there and turning them over,” he said.

“I think we can go there and get the job done, even though it can be a bogey track for Workington.

“Hopefully, I can pass on my knowledge because it’s a track I always seem to do well at, even though I don’t particularly like it.”

Workington sit fifth in the table after nine meetings, with only Sheffield having raced fewer times, and have only failed to take something from their trip to league leaders Edinburgh without Cook.

Comets’ captain has been impressed by the performances of Ty Proctor and Thomas Jorgensen since both settled into their new team and is confident James Sarjeant will come good in time.

“James is a very capable rider, he just needs to stop being so nervous at the start and believe in himself,” he said.

“We’ve still got a solid top three and we’ve got Mason Campton at No.2 doing an awesome job.

“Following on from Redcar, where we got a good away win, things have been going really well for us.

“It was unfortunate we got rained off on Monday but, prior to that, we had a good win over Ipswich and the week before against Edinburgh.

“Fans might have been a bit miffed about the amount of track work going on on Saturday because we spent a bit of time on it but we got it perfect after heat four.”
