Delighted Workington Comets boss Tony Jackson hailed his side’s stunning comeback win over Glasgow Tigers as the best meeting of their season so far.

Comets trailed by 10 points after seven heats but a team effort saw them turn the meeting around to leave the visitors thankful for a consolation point in the end.

Team manager Jackson said: “We came back from the dead really.

“At 10 points down after seven races and having only produced two winners, things didn’t look good at all.

“I took a gamble and gave the black-and-white helmet to Mason Campton and said it needed to be the race of his life and he did the business.

“Nike Lunna had gone unbeaten by a Comets rider until that point.

“We were a little bit fortunate in the next one but that gave us a head of steam because suddenly we were only a point down.”

After 14 heats of drama and controversy, it fell to in-form Australian Ty Proctor and star guest Chris Harris, in for injured captain Craig Cook, to prevent an away 5-1 in the final race which would have snatched victory for the Tigers.

The pair got the job done to send fans home happy and Jackson admitted he was jumping for joy at the end.

“We said to the lads in heat 15 to just get two points from the race, we didn’t care how we got them,” he said.

“Ty Proctor made a good start and Chris Harris chased Aaron Summers and eventually passed him. I wouldn’t like to go through that stress every week.

"Both teams had a bit of bad luck in there but on balance Glasgow maybe had a bit more than us.

“For tension and entertainment, it was fantastic.”

However, there was frustration for Comets yesterday as their trip to Scunthorpe was postponed due to bad weather and Jackson admitted the club face a struggle to fit in every meeting they have had called off this season.
