Thomas Jorgensen will miss the visit of Championship title hopefuls Glasgow to Derwent Park this weekend, forcing Workington Comets to reshuffle their side.

Jorgensen has been riding through the pain barrier with a bad knee injury in recent months but, after pulling out of Sunday’s trip to Scunthorpe, he has returned to Denmark to have it assessed.

The blow means Comets will use rider replacement at No.2 on Saturday, with Mason Campton moving to No.3 and Ty Proctor shifting to No.5.

Despite Jorgensen’s absence, Comets boss Tony Jackson believes there is plenty to excite fans about the visit of the Tigers.

The Tigers’ last visit to west Cumbria in July ended with a dramatic last heat decider as Chris Harris stood in for Craig Cook at No.1.

And with Cook back in Comets’ line-up after missing Saturday’s home defeat against Edinburgh, Jackson expects fireworks against one of the Championship’s top teams.

He said: “It was a thrilling match last time they were down here and there’s no reason why it wouldn’t be again.

“At the end of the day, they have been on a bad run just like we have been, so we both want to get some points on the board.”

Reflecting on his side’s disappointing weekend of back-to-back defeats against Edinburgh and Scunthorpe, Jackson believes the former were always likely to be too strong for a Comets side which was without Cook and Jorgensen.

Jackson slammed the decision to hold the Premiership Riders Championship on a night when Workington, Glasgow and Berwick all had important meetings and were missing key riders.

He added: “The result was what we expected.

“In the last two home meetings, Craig and Thomas had scored paid 30 and you can’t take that out of the side and expect anything against a team like Edinburgh in the form they’re in.”
