Workington Comets will take confidence into a pair of daunting fixtures this weekend after a comfortable win over Berwick on Sunday.

Comets had only just lost out on retaining the Border Trophy in a challenge match at Berwick the previous night but they looked much more at it on their own track, taking control after a slow start to take all three points.

Tony Jackson said: “We made it hard for ourselves early doors but we came out on top which was good.

“There was solid scoring but not brilliant. It was a team effort where they all pulled together and got the job done.

“They’ll have to be a bit sharper next weekend to upset Somerset.”

Comets hosts the league leaders on Saturday before visiting Peterborough, who currently sit in the play-offs places, on Sunday and Jackson hopes their Sunday victory could be the boost they need to spring a shock.

“That was what we needed after some of our disappointing meetings on the road,” he said.

“The objective until the end of the season is the same as it always is; to win as many meetings as we can.

“We’ll take it match by match.”
