Dion Aiye should be closer to a return to west Cumbria on Monday after a meeting over his visa clearance.

The Papua New Guinea star has been grounded back home and unable to return and resume his career with Whitehaven.

Haven coach Carl Forster has been in contact with Aiye, who is keen to get back playing again for the Recreation Ground club.

Forster said: “Hopefully the meeting with the relevant authorities will tick all the boxes on Monday and he will soon be on his way. He tells me he is really looking forward to getting involved again and playing a part in our League One campaign.

“As soon as he is clear to leave the club will have a flight booked for him, although it might be too soon to expect him to play any part in the Town game.”

Whitehaven host Workington in their next game, a League One Cup tie at the Recreation Ground a week tomorrow.

Forster said: “We will certainly be looking to turn things around against Town after that Ike Southward Trophy defeat.

“We had a good discussion in mid-week about what happened at Derwent Park, particularly in the second-half.

“The biggest disappointment was how we crumbled when they got in front. With plenty of ability in the side we think it’s a mental thing which we can put right.

“The big positive was Scott McAvoy’s return. I thought he caused them a lot of problems.”
