New boy Aiden Worthington faces a late fitness test ahead of Whitehaven's pre-season friendly at Barrow Raiders tomorrow.

The former Distington amateur is a slight injury doubt as head coach Carl Forster prepares a side to travel to Craven Park, kick-off 2pm.

Forster wants to shake off last weekend's loss at the hands of Keighley Cougars as he names a more settled side.

Only 19 men will be named for the clash with player/coach Forster also taking to the field for the first time this year.

"This week will be more of a structured team," said Forster. "Last week, we accommodated 22 players but that's not realistic.

"I got to see everybody play but this week it's about giving players more minutes.

"My half-backs will get 80 minutes and we will see if we can get more consistency.

"It was hard to look at our attack last week when we didn't have the ball.

"But this is a new week for us and, hopefully, we will see a lot more of our attack."

Forster is also keen to get a look at one of their League One rivals in action, with Paul Crarey's Barrow assembling a strong squad for another tilt at promotion.

"We know Barrow will be up there at the end of the year and we want to be by their side or above them," said Forster.

"So, we will take a lot out of this game and not just a result.

"It is still a friendly, though, and we will be trying new things, experimenting with things while points are not at stake."

Kurt Maudling has come in for praise from Forster, alongside Worthington and Jake Moore, for their efforts in training. But Maulding will miss out.

"He has picked up a cut to his knee in an awkward position, so he will sit this one out," added Forster.

Whitehaven's squad: Miller, Burns, Taylor, Pattinson, Parker, Dalton, Crook, Holland, Newton, Forster, Allen, Moore, Tilley, Shackley, Holliday, Riley, Fox, Roper, Worthington.
