Glenn Riley will have a late fitness test to see if he is available for Whitehaven tomorrow at Hunslet.

The strong-running forward hurt his ankle in the Good Friday derby at Derwent Park against Workington Town and has been unable to train since.

He was never going to make the line-up against Halifax last weekend but coach Carl Forster had prioritised this week’s League One clash at Hunslet.

“Although Glenn didn’t train on Wednesday, he does feel the ankle is a lot better and we will wait as long as we can to see how he feels,” said Forster.

“Aiden Worthington has a leg injury and, although he was prepared to play last week, it is still causing him a problem and I don’t think he will be ready to return.”

Skipper Scott McAvoy, who had been experiencing a problem or two with his knee, was rested for the cup game but will be ready to lead the side at Hunslet.

“I have watched Hunslet’s last two games and James Coyle has them working in attack like he had us. We will be concentrating on giving their defence something to think about,” added the player-coach.

“It is a big game for both clubs as the winner should be third in the table and it’s important we try and hang-in behind the two leaders.”

Teams meet only once during the regulation season and Haven have already played title favourites Toronto Wolfpack, with a home game against Barrow to come.

Dave Allen, who was Whitehaven’s player of the year in 2016, has still not played this time round.

A recent scan on his damaged ankle suggested what the problem might be but the club is going to ask for a second opinion.

“We are hoping that after a period of rehab, Dave might be able to get back into action, so we are still looking at a few weeks before we have him available again,” said Forster.

Whitehaven squad: Miller, Burns, Taylor, Parker, Calvert, Roper, Crook, Shackley, Newton, Forster, Holliday, Mcavoy, Olstrom, Tilley, Holland, Riley, Thompson, Maudling, Pattinson.
