Workington Town joint coach Gary Charlton is under no illusions that tomorrow’s clash against Oldham Roughyeds, at the Whitebank Stadium (3pm), is going to be a tough encounter.

Oldham are the only team to have beaten Town at home this season, albeit the first game of the campaign, and Charlton and fellow joint coach Martin Oglanby need three wins from their last three games to land the Championship One league title and £50,000 winner-take-all prize.

“We’ve done nothing special in training this week and just prepared for another tough game,” said Charlton, “And we know the consequences of not getting a result.

“The game will be won in the forwards, around the ruck, and if our forwards can get on top early, then the result will take care of itself. We have a very good three-quarter line when they are all fit. We know we have to play very well tomorrow and cut out the penalties and the errors.

“I’ve known their new coach Martin Roden for a few years and hope he turns it round for Oldham, but not tomorrow.”

“We’ve won nothing yet and will be taking one game at a time.”

Town will be without full-back Brett Carter after he underwent minor surgery earlier this week. So Elliott Miller will start in his place, while Stephen Dawes has been ruled of for the rest of the season with knee ligament damage. Ryan MacDonald comes back onto the bench.

Charlton added: “Elliott will stay at full-back - he enjoys playing there. Brett is a good player to lose but we have a good player replacing him.”
