West Cumbria’s three National Conference Premier Division sides are matched against the best the league has to offer this weekend.

It’s a tasty line-up as the current leaders Thatto Heath; third-placed Siddal, who are the reigning champions and West Hull who are fourth, take on the Cumbrian trio.

Match of the day is clearly top versus second as Thatto Heath entertain second-placed Wath Brow in St Helens.

The Crusaders have recruited from the professional ranks during the winter and have won all five Premier Division games so far, creating the best points differential (plus 114).

They recently won at Kells, with a fair bit in hand, although the hosts’ coach Peter Smith felt the final scoreline wasn’t a true reflection of the game.

Hornets are in a good place at the moment with four wins in as many games and the meanest defence in the league with only 24 points conceded.

As Thatto Heath are the top points scorers (152), it promises to be an intriguing clash with not much in it at the finish.

After their flying start, Kells have been rather becalmed by two successive defeats and have dropped to fifth. Tomorrow, they have a big home game with the team immediately above them in the table.

West Hull have played a game more and have two more points than the west Cumbrians but a win would lift Kells above them as they have a much better points differential.

That leaves Egremont, still to record their first win, hosting last year’s champions Siddal in another huge game for the area.

Siddal have only played three games, winning them all and already boasting a points differential tally of plus 106.

Their claim to fame this year, though, was in running Toronto Wolfpack so close in the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup. No team has got as near to beating the Canadians as Siddal.

It’s certainly a big test for the Gillfoot side who have lost five games in a row and are the only team in the Premier Division without a win.

In the Cumbria Men’s League, officials are still awaiting the referee’s report after the match between Ulverston and Ellenborough was abandoned.

Conflicting versions of events have emerged which is why no comments have been issued until the man in the middle has given his account.

The end appears to have come around the mid-point of the second half after a number of players had been sent-off.

Ellenborough have no fixture tomorrow but Ulverston have another home game against west opposition. Seaton Rangers make the trip south this time.

Match of the day will clearly be at Distington where the reigning champions host Hensingham, the team who ended their long unbeaten run with a golden point win in the semi-final of the BARLA Cumbria Cup.

The third game in the league is another all-west affair with Glasson Rangers entertaining Wath Brow.

In the Iggesund Cumberland ARL the action, gets under way tonight when Kells host Cockermouth in the Cumbria Shield (kick-off 6pm).

Two more ties take place tomorrow when early leaders Flimby host Lowca again, a week after beating them 28-6 in the league while Egremont entertain Aspatria.

Due to so many matches being postponed last weekend, all clubs have been asked to observe a minute’s applause in memory of the Ellenborough player Kieran "Skully" Poole whose death has shocked the local community.
