Seaton Rangers half-back Miguel Blanco-Charters has been named in the finalised 22-man Spanish side for two forthcoming internationals.

Blanco-Charters is hoping to feature in the Rugby League World Cup European Pool B qualifiers against Russia and Ireland.

This is not the first call up to the national squad for the Seaton star, who was born in Spain before moving to the UK when he was six.

He has represented Spain five times and will be joined in this squad by Hull FC youngster Joel Laynez and former French international prop Mathieu Griffi.

“As the games approach so is our excitement and the squad is looking forward to coming together and having one last push in training,” said coach Darren Fisher.

“Our domestic players have been working continually hard and they are in really good shape to have earned a place in the 22, it’s not been an easy task to finalise the squad.”

Fisher added: “We have worked hard to achieve the best balance of domestic and experienced players to give us a chance of making history by qualifying but also building for the future.

“The challenge is huge but I am confident that they can compete at the next level.”

The 27-year-old was initially named in his country’s 40-man train-on squad for their qualifiers later this month and has now made it through to the next stage where he will hope to take to the field.

Blanco-Charters got into rugby league through his stepfather Colin Armstrong, a former professional player with both Whitehaven and Workington Town.
