The Maryport derby lived up to expectations in mid-week when Glasson and Ellenborough got to grips in the EB Lamb Amateur Cup.

It was always tight but, in the end, Ellenborough took the first round tie 30-26.

They had led 18-10 at half-time and, although Glasson edged the second half, not by enough to turn things round.

It was five tries apiece and in the end the goal-kicking of Michael Hill proved decisive as he landed five attempts at goal.

By comparison, Glasson could only manage three conversions through Sean Mumberson (2) and Gary Taylor.

The Glasson tries were scored by Matt Burns, Josh Jones, Andrew Pattinson, Taylor and Luke Jackson.

Ellenborough’s tries were scored by Jason Graham (2), Kai Gilhespy, Luke Penrice and Kieran McCartney.

Distington won well at Kells A, coming out of a potentially tricky tie with a comfortable winning margin of 26-4.

They had led 16-4 at the break and Kells A could make no serious headway to cut the deficit.

Michael Orr scored the Kells try while the Distington touchdowns came from Stephen Conway, Luke Scott, Jordan Scott, Daniel Park and Shaun Adams. Gavin Martin converted three.

Seaton were the third winners on the night, beating Wath Brow A 34-16 after building a half-time lead of 16-4.

Tries for the home side were scored by Liam Wood (2), Lewis Mason, Matt Dixon, Adam McGlasson and Jack Earl. Dom Smallwood converted five.

In reply, Wath Brow scored tries through Andrew Bulman, Dave Bradley and Peter Caddy. Sam Curwen converted two.

Flimby conceded their tie against Aspatria because of a spate of injuries which has seriously disrupted team plans.

The semi-final will be played on July 18 or 19 and see Distington host Aspatria with Seaton travelling to Ellenborough.

In actual fact, Flimby are due to travel to Flimby tomorrow for an Iggesund Cumberland ARL game but that will depend on how the injuries are progressing.

The other game in the league sees Kells host Broughton Red Rose.

There look to be some finely balanced games in the Cumbria Men’s League tomorrow, headed by Hensingham v Ellenborough – two sides who stepped up from the Cumberland ARL two years ago.

Glasson host Walney Central; Distington have Seaton as visitors while Wath Brow travel to Ulverston.

The National Conference League resumes tomorrow with a big test for Wath Brow Hornets. Third in the table, they travel to take-on Siddal, the Premier Division champions who have won all their nine league games so far.

Equally important, but at the other end of the table, is Egremont’s home clash with Leigh Miners Rangers.

Egremont are rock bottom of the Premier Division while Leigh are third from the bottom, three points better-off.

Kells are away to Skirlaugh, a long journey for a game they can win and consolidate their fourth place.
