Cockermouth-born Hull KR star Shaun Lunt has one eye on the captain's armband this season.

Hooker Lunt has admitted he would love to lead the Robins this year as they aim to go back up to the Super League at the first attempt.

But he also indicated there were several other players very capable of leading the team as they get set to tackle the Championship.

Coach Tim Sheens is set to use Hull KR's two upcoming friendlies to take a look at his squad and who will take a lead role.

First up is a derby against Hull FC on Sunday, followed by a clash with Leeds Rhinos in two weeks time.

Lunt has previously been named as a front-runner to take the captain's armband following the departure of Terry Campese at the end of last season.

But he told the Hull Daily Mail he would be happy with whoever gets the role.

"Everyone would like to be a captain for this great club," he said.

"If I did get it, I'd be over the moon, it'd be a massive achievement personally but we have plenty of leaders in this team that would not worry me one little bit to play under.

"Campo was a great captain but we have plenty in this side that could lead us.

"It's going to be a difficult choice for Tim, but an easy one because there is four or five to choose from and everyone would be happy with that."

Hull KR were due to open their Championship campaign on February 5 against Bradford Bulls, who went into liquidation earlier this week.

A new club is expected to be formed in time for the new campaign and the Rugby Football League have kept a place open for them in the second tier.
