Wath Brow Hornet's star to skipper English Lions against Australians

Karl Dixon will complete an astonishing few weeks for the Wath Brow starlet tomorrow when he captains the English Lions Under-18s for their clash with the Australian Institute of Sport at Heworth, York.
The stand-off played a key role in his club’s impressive National Conference League Grand Final win over Myton last month, and at the weekend he was named player of the year in the amateur game’s top-flight.
And he is now hoping to cap his incredible season with a win over the tourists and gain revenge for last year’s 38-24 defeat.
“I don’t think we were too far off last time, it was maybe their fitness that got them the win,” said Dixon.
“We’ve had several training sessions together as a squad and a hit-out against Wales to prepare us for this game and it seems to have gone well.
“We were probably a bit unlucky to lose to the Welsh but I’m sure we’ll be more than ready when we face the Australians.
“It’s been an unbelievable season for me so far but beating the AIS would probably top everything.”
He is joined in the Lions’ squad by Brow team-mates Scott Pink, Ian Curnow and Charlie Tomlinson, plus Glasson’s Nathan Lucock.
Dixon beat full-back Shaun Quinn of Thatto Heath and Leigh Miners’ scrum-half Scott O’Brien to lift the NCL honour.
The teenager, eyed by several professional clubs, was the Brow’s top try-scorer this year, crossing 14 times in 23 matches, and picking up eight man of the match awards for the champions.
Wath Brow also carried off the league’s Fair Play award after suffering just two sin-binnings all season, courtesy of Dixon and forward Richard Huby.
