League Two side Lincoln City will host the winners with the Borough Park club travelling to Warwickshire tomorrow night to determine the outcome.

Gareth Arnison pounced to net his second goal of the season on 18 minutes after Eddie Nisevic came the visitors the lead.

Boss Darren Edmondson had to make sweeping changes with captain David Hewson suspended and Jonny Wright and Phil McLuckie injured.

In came Conor Tinnion, Stevie Hindmarch and new recruit Ryan Bowman made his debut up front.

The impressive Carlisle youngster signed on at Workington for a month after Thursday’s training session and settled in quickly.

Reds started the game brightly but fell behind against the run of play on seven minutes.

Nisevic picked the ball up midway inside the Reds half, raced past three challenges before cutting into the box and sliding the past Aaran Taylor.

Nuneaton could have doubled their lead less than two minutes later after good work by danger man Donovan Simmonds set strike partner Lee Moore away.

The pacey front man ran through one-on-one with Taylor but the young keeper got down well to smother the ball.

Both sides were playing with pace, a far cry from the drab 1-0 win for Nuneaton at Borough Park two weeks ago.

Hindmarch, who was operating down the right win, had a half chance to level on 13 minutes but volleyed wide from Anthony Wright’s in-swinging cross.

Bowman was next to try his luck, hitting a speculative 25 yard effort straight down the throat of Town custodian Danny Alcock.

It was end-to-end stuff with Nuneaton’s Simmonds trying an audacious flick that went high and wide of Taylor’s goal.

The equaliser came on 18 minutes following a great passage of play for Reds.

Kyle May pinged a long ball to the edge of the box, Hindmarch controlled it and played in Arnison, who took a touch and stabbed past Alcock.

Slack marking by Workington almost gifted Nuneaton a second but Stuart Pierpoint failed to direct his header on target.

Reds were battling hard in the centre of the park and Andy Langford came inches away from breaking his goal drought on 37 minutes.

The fullback had acres of space on the right but swiped his 30 yard strike against the post with England C international Alcock beaten all ends up.

The second half passed without incident with only a wonder save from Alcock denying Tinion an excellent winner just before the hour mark.

Both sides battled hard and continued to press for a winner but neither could break the other down meaning a replay tomorrow night will have to settle the tie.

Afterwards, Edmondson said: “We were the better side and had some good chances. It was a positive performance from us and we still have a fighting chance to go through.

“It was a poor start but our response was brilliant.

“Gareth needed the goal to lift his confidence and when he’s on form, he’s a top player for us.”
