Workington Golf Club’s Rob Sim and Ian Fulton have won the Window Outlet Cockermouth and District Snooker League Doubles Handicap after a 4-1 victory over Flimby’s Kevin Kirkham and Michael Walker in a captivating final.

In the first frame, Sim and Fulton (+13 handicap) produced the better safety and in extracting a chance it was Sim who produced a break of 35.

This contribution then remained the difference and even though Kirkham and Walker (+17 handicap) fought all the way it was the Golf Club pairing who ran out 68-29 winners.

A similar pattern to that of the first frame panned out in the next with another break setting the tone. However, this time is was Flimby’s Kirkham who broke the deadlock with a smaller contribution of 17 to eventually take his team to a 60-19 victory.

The third frame saw a good early opportunity for the Golf Club pairing and with Sim taking full advantage he recorded a break of 31.

The Flimby duo dug in and even though they managed to get themselves to 27 behind with the colours left it was Sim and Fulton who potted the balls they required for a 62-32 win and a 2-1 lead.

In a safety-dominated fourth frame, Sim and Fulton demonstrated the greater patience to create an opening. Picking off what they could whilst continuing to apply their superior tactical knowledge the golf club pair went on to win the longest frame of the match 72-17.

Frame five was again nip and tuck in the early stages but with the golf club’s Sim getting the first clear cut chance he coolly delivered a break of 36.

Even though Walker and Kirkham refused to give in the early advantage proved too much to overcome as Sim and Fulton went on to take the frame and the title with a 72-11 victory.
