Workington Cons maintained their top spot in the Window Outlet Cockermouth and District Snooker League Division One Table this week with a 4-2 home win over Division Two's Flimby Social.

Three out of the first four frames were decided on the last few balls but, with all of them going in favour of the Cons side, a 4-0 lead was ensured.

Flimby’s Kevin Kirkham broke the run with a quality frame-winning break of 31 to defeat Julian Plaza and, in also taking the last frame, defeat was somewhat softened for the Division Two leaders as they still went home with two points.

Division One's Workington Golf Club were in determined mood as, in gaining a 3-0 lead against Station Road B, they guaranteed their unbeaten start and threatened their opponents' own unbeaten stretch.

Victories by Mark Brasted, Rob Sim and Phil Sorfleet put the golfers in a powerful position, however, this proved to be as good as it would get for the Division One third-placed side as Tony Elliott (32 break), Peter O’Hagan (38 break) and captain Stephen O’Hagan all won for the Station A outfit in a remarkable comeback that saw the match end in a 3-3 draw.

Workington’s Vets Club and Seaton Legion cancelled each other out as the Division Two versus Division One clash finished in a 3-3 draw.

Top break of the match (and the week) came from Vets' captain Kevin Basnett with a contribution of 74 in his defeat of Ryan Mandale.

Equally impressive was Seaton’s Mike Dawson as he defied his oldest player in the league tag with a solid frame-winning contribution of 30 against Steve Garroway in the last frame of the match.

Vets stay second in Division Two and Seaton remain bottom of Division One in sixth place.

Maryport Social successfully negotiated two black ball finishes to put them on the right side of a 4-2 score line against fellow Division One opponents, Station Road A.

Social’s Paul Lister was the game’s top scorer as a break of 31 enabled him to defeat Mike Walker. Maryport are still fourth in Division One, however with Station A one place below them, the score line sees the gap to fifth increased to seven points.

Last week’s first win of the season for the United Club gave them the confidence they needed as the Workington side followed it up with another; a 5-1 away win against Aspatria’s Sun Inn.

The fixtures two break aggregate contributions both came from United players as Mark Johnson and Dave Holland made 30 and 29 respectively.

The United Club stay third in Division Two with the Sun Inn two places below at the foot of the table.
