Workington Cons extended their lead in Division One of the Window Outlet Cockermouth and District Snooker League this week with a 6-0 home victory against Division Two's Workington Legion.

In a one-sided affair, Cons’ Julian Plaza top-scored with a break of 47 in his defeat of Louise Evans as Mike Park, Richard McCarthy, Alan Moore and Stuart Shepherd also won for the top-tier leaders.

Workington’s Vets Club produced the biggest shock of the week and they defeated Division One title challengers Workington Golf Club 5-1 away from home.

The golfers looked on course for a routine victory as Rob Sim won the first frame and Bryan Walker led frame two thanks to a break of 36, nevertheless with a fine comeback, Neil Henderson pinched the game.

Even though the Golf Club’s Mark Brasted made a contribution of 32 in the next, a 37 clearance by Kevin Basnett took the Vets 2-1 up.

Paul Graham and Stuart Ryan soon made it 4-1 but it was Steve Garroway who rounded the match off nicely with a break of 32 in an impressive team performance.

Division One second-placed Station Road B were held to a 3-3 away draw against Workington’s United Club.

A Richard Nelson win put the United Club one up, however, a break of 30 from Station B’s Simon Frazer pulled it back to 1-1.

United Captain Andrew Mitchelhill made a break of 33 to put his team back in the lead but, with Mark Tunstall and Peter O’Hagan winning the next two, Station B were in the lead at 3-2.

Looking for the victory, Shaun Ayre stepped up for Station B but with other ideas, it was United’s Dave Chapman who ground out a win to record a draw.

Last week’s Division Two leaders Flimby Social went down 4-2 at home to Division One's Seaton Legion but, in a match that the Social side trailed 3-0, the final scoreline proved to be less disastrous than it could have been.

The highlight of the match came in the very first frame as in needing the last four balls Legion’s Ryan Mandale produced a fine 22 clearance to knock Flimby’s Kevin Kirkham off the top of the Division Two leading player standings.
