Penrith Fortec Motorsport driver Frank Bird is hoping to see out the MSA F4 British Championship season in style at Brands Hatch this weekend.

Bird will take the 600-mile round trip as he looks to score more vital points in his car, which is backed by Be Wiser, Hager and Frank Bird Poultry.

The Penrith-born 17-year-old has endured contrasting fortunes this season, which has seen him score points in three successive rounds mid-season after a challenging first few outings.

But he’s missed out in the past couple of meetings, so he’s planning on an end-of-season flourish.

It’s going to be a tough challenge for the teenager, though, as he hasn’t raced a single-seater around the undulating Grand Prix track at the historic Kent venue, which hosted the cycling events at the London 2012 Paralympics.

But given some good luck, which has been drastically missing for many races this season, Bird is confident he can put on a good show and amass some more solid points on his debut season in the class.

“I can’t believe it’s the end of the season already and I’m looking forward to the Brands Hatch finale this weekend,” he said.

“The GP circuit is a track I like and enjoy but I have never been there in a Frank Bird single-seater before.

“Hopefully, that won’t matter and we can carry on our good run of form and get some solid points scoring results to end the season on a positive note and reward my team and sponsors for their hard work this season.”

Frank raced Ginettas last year before graduating to the MSA F4 British Championship this season.

Meanwhile, dad Paul’s Penrith-based Be Wiser Ducati British Superbike Championship team head over to Assen in Holland this weekend as Shane Byrne defends a 27-point lead in the title race, going into the penultimate round.

Paul is a former National Rally Champion and multiple runner-up on both gravel and tarmac championships.

Paul Bird Motorsport are winners of over 170 races in British Superbike Championship. These include MotoGP CRT, World Superbike Championship, 125cc, 250cc, Supersport British Championships, Superstock National Championships, Isle of Man TT, North West 200, Daytona, Macau GP, and British domestic races.

The pair are based at Langwathby, near Penrith.
