A Keswick teenager has been selected in the Under-21 England Alpine Ski Squad for the 2016/17 winter season.

Francesca Lee, 18, who has just completed her A-levels at Keswick School, is currently training with JR Racing, overseas.

She also trains with Ravens Ski Club in Sunderland and at the Kendal Ski Club.

Francesca’s goals for this season are “to enjoy having my first full winter season of skiing, to keep improving and to have fun.”

Snowsport England Chief Executive and British Ski and Snowboard Board Director Tim Fawke said: “Francesca is one of our athletes who has followed the talent pathway from her early skiing and, after returning from injury, is now looking to fulfil her potential as part of the Under 21 squad.”

Francesca will spend most of this winter on snow with JR Racing, run by Jo Ryding, sister of North-West skiing star Dave Ryding.

She skis on Salomon skis and boots and is sponsored by George Fisher, AL and the Cumbria Talented Athlete Fund.

Snowsport England is responsible for growing participation in snowsports through direct funding from Sport England.

As well as working closely with snow centres, artificial slopes and clubs to increase participation, Snowsport England also manages English squads and athletes across all the snowsport disciplines, as well as handling the training of coaches and officials.

The organisation runs a national snowsports grassroots participation campaign, GO SKI GO BOARD, which has seen thousands of people try skiing or snowboarding for the first time.
