Border City ABC are ready for a boxing show with a difference this weekend.

Tomorrow, a select squad of boxers from the Carlisle club will come up against a Scotland select squad at a unique event that will run throughout the course of the afternoon.

A number of businesses from the area have also offered their backing to the event, with Carlisle Window Systems sponsoring the whole show.

And Border City’s Anthony Earl, along with the club’s boxers, are looking forward to the day.

“It is absolutely huge. Ticket sales have been going well,” Earl said.

“The Sands has been really good with us. Jonathan Higgins, the events manager, has been great. Training has been going very well in the gym, the lads are up for it.

“Nick Holden, our matchmaker, has been very busy every night, matching all the boxers from the top of Scotland and the UK, as well.

“There has been a huge advertising campaign from the club. There will be ticket sales on the Sunday. We have sold a lot but we are hoping to get a few through the door tomorrow.”

While hundreds are expected at the Sands Centre for the boxing tomorrow afternoon, thousands are also expected to pack out Brunton Park that evening for Carlisle United’s League Two play-off semi-final first leg against Exeter.

Earl thinks it will be a great day for sport in the area.

He said: “It is a good sporting day for Carlisle because you can go to the boxing and then go over to the football for the play-offs.”

The Cumbrian club has gone from strength to strength since it was first established back in 2015.

Earl added: “The last two shows we did, we sold out and we could have sold about another half on top. We filled the place.

“The Sands is really a toe in the water to see where our benchmark is. Hopefully, we can put something on like this again in the future.”
