Workington have two games left, in which, they can complete a season’s cricket without a single defeat.

Skipper Callum Moffat knows if they can get past Furness tomorrow and beat Kendal in Sunday’s County Cup final that remarkable feat will have been achieved.

“It would be quite amazing if we could do that and I know the lads are all geared-up to try and achieve it. I can’t imagine it has happened very often before” says the Workington captain.

In some other year, Furness v Workington in the final game of the season might have been a shoot-out for the title – not in 2016. Workington had the championship wrapped-up two weeks ago.

So they travel south as title-winners to play the runners-up, who are also the deposed champions from 2015.

Then, on Sunday, it’s the final of the County Cup at Penrith when Workington will be up against the Northern League side Kendal.

Having disposed of Netherfield quite comfortably in the semi-final, Workington have no qualms about taking on another side from the Northern League. Indeed, the last time they won the County Cup they beat Barrow who play in that competition.

Workington won’t have outstanding professional Kaushalya Gajasinghe on either day as he’s back home in Sri Lanka after a superb debut season for the club.

Moffat said: “He will be a miss because he had such an excellent season, scoring over a thousand runs. I don’t know whether we would have been allowed to use a deputy pro in the final but we had decided not to in any case.

“Andrew Ireland missed the semi-final win against Netherfield, so he will just come in for our pro and that will be the only change.

“On Saturday, Simon Beare can’t play at Furness so Simon James will deputise, otherwise it’s an almost identical team on both days.”

With the League and Higson Cup double, Workington are aiming for the treble against Kendal not forgetting the second team has already won the Sowerby Cup.

Workington seconds will sign-off tomorrow at the Valentine Ground with an important game against Lindal Moor in Division One.

Next-to-bottom Workington have avoided the drop but Lindal still have a chance of promotion if they win and Carlisle slip-up at Ulverston.

There are five points between them going into the final game after their showdown clash at Lindal last week was washed-out.

But with heavy showers forecast across the county it’s possible for one part of Cumbria to get in a game while another part is unable to complete. Nobody wants to see the outcome decided by the weather.

In Division One, Seascale complete their programme with a trip south to take-on Millom.

While Workington are poised to go through the Premier Division season unbeaten their neighbours Whitehaven look like being unable to win a single match in 2016. They finish-off at Wigton. Cleator host Dalton and Cockermouth make the relatively short trip to Keswick.
