West Indian Justin Greaves will re-join Carlisle Cricket Club for the 2017 season.

Greaves, 22, made a big impression as the club's amateur in 2015 and returns ahead of Carlisle's first season back in the Premier Division of the North Lancs & Cumbria Cricket League.

In 2015, all-rounder Greaves scored nearly 1,000 runs and took 60 wickets in the North Lancs & Cumbria League.

Club secretary Mark Davidson was delighted with the news the Barbadian will be coming back to Edenside.

"Clearly, as a club committee, we are delighted to have Justin on board as the club's professional and thanks must go to 1st XI captain Marc Brown for much of the background work in bringing Justin back to Edenside this year," he said.

"I’m sure you will agree that he is just the person we need both on and off the field as we move into a very important season for the club."

Last year's overseas Alex Calmy, from Perth in Western Australia, was one of the club's successes at Edenside last summer, taking 64 wickets in their title-winning campaign.

Carlisle officials had initially hoped Calmy would be able to come back for the 2017 campaign.

But, following the news Calmy's return wouldn't be possible, former West Indies Under-19 man Greaves became the club's number one target, with Carlisle officials delighted to get the deal confirmed.

Meanwhile, the fixtures for the 2017 season have also been confirmed.

Carlisle will start their North Lancs & Cumbria Premier Division campaign at Keswick on April 29, before facing Cleator in their first competitive game of the season at Edenside a week later.

They will end the season with a home match against Wigton on September 2 and an away trip to Dalton for their final game of the season on September 9.

This year Carlisle Cricket Club are celebrating their 125th anniversary.
