Rusty Harrison will sensationally return to Workington Comets next season just five months after quitting the club.

Harrison walked out on the club in July stating riding, juggling a full-time job at M-Sport, and supporting his family was too much.

The 31-year-old was slapped with a ban from the British Speedway Promoters’ Association as it wasn’t the first time he had walked out. His expulsion expired at the end of this season, making the Comets legend free to return.

Harrison is second in the all-time appearance records for Workington behind Carl Stonehewer, having first ridden for the side in 2001.

Over the past couple of seasons he had discovered some of his best form, and was one of the most exciting riders round Derwent Park.

Owner Laura Morgan believes fans’ favourite Harrison will be an important member of the team.

She said: “I am sure Rusty will not let us down. He is committed to Workington in 2013 and that is a big plus for us.

“Rusty will have a full-time mechanic and we will give him all the support he needs. It is a whole new start for Rusty. He cannot wait to get back on the track.

“All the fans appreciate what he has done for Workington in the past and in a couple of years, he could pass Stonehewer’s appearance record.

“I can’t see the problems he had last season happening again.”

Morgan also announced Tero Aarnio, who ironically replaced Harrison when he quit, as the final signing for 2013,

The Finn was known for his effort, and Morgan said he showed enough potential to improve further next season.

“Tero has some valuable experience under his belt and will fit in with the team,” she said. “He had one or two problems last year, but rode well and again can improve his average.

“Tero came in during the middle of last season to replace Rusty, who was a higher -calibre rider, and too much was expected of him.

“He is coming in at the start of the season now, so is beginning from a different point.”

Harrison and Aarnio complete Comets’ line-up.

They join captain and No1 Richard Lawson, Rene Bach, Kyle Howarth, Ashley Morris and Mason Campton.
