WORKINGTON Reds defender Anthony Wright says his side will fight hard to protect their clean sheet record against Whitby tomorrow.

Reds have won their last seven games in all competitions and haven’t conceded a goal in their last five league matches.

Their midweek fixture against Salford was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, but Derek Townsley’s team could close the gap on leaders to Blyth to two points with a win.

Reds won the reverse league fixture against Whitby 3-1 at Borough Park back in October, but were dumped out of the FA Trophy by the same opponents.

Wright said: “It was frustrating that the Salford match was called off because we’re on a really good run and want to keep momentum going, but the game being off gives us a rest ready to go again tomorrow.

“We’ve got a solid defence and they’ve been brilliant this season. The confidence in the dressing room has been brilliant.

“If we can keep these clean sheets going we can keep up this important run. We’re playing with confidence and we’re doing the things that we have been doing well.”

Since losing to Colwyn Bay on Saturday, January 2 Reds have beaten Grantham, Halesowen, Hyde, Marine and league leaders Blyth Spartans.

Manager Derek Townsley has an almost full squad to choose from, but defender James Earl is likely to miss the match due to a calf injury.

Matty Tymon will also sit the game out as he continues his recovery from a chipped bone, but skipper Gari Rowntree should be fit.

Whitby are just outside the relegation zone, but are on a five match unbeaten run.

Wright added: “We’ve been putting the ball into the right areas. We get results, we work hard as a team and it’s important to keep doing that.

“A lot of the teams are the same in our league and we just have to match that and get a result.”
