WORKINGTON Town boss Phil Veivers has warned his players to be aware of Dewsbury Rams’ skillful half-backs this weekend.

The Rams have three very talented players in the centre of the park, directing traffic and Veivers admitted it would be another tough encounter.

“They rely heavily on two exciting half-backs in Andy Kain and Ben Reynolds, combined with the experience of Paul Sykes to give them a lift,” said Veivers.

“They have also got some physical forwards that can put you under pressure and then you get the ingenuity of the half-backs on top.”

Veivers has been focusing on tightening up Workington’s ruck area after a poor defensive display saw them go under at the hands of Sheffield in last Sunday’s opening Championship game.

“Any coach worth his salt would have looked at the video from Sunday and thought we’ll go through the middle against them,” he admitted.

“So that has been my target and the lads have worked hard on it.”

It is hoped forward Marc Shackley will return to action against the Rams but Veivers says the six remaining long-term injury worries, including Jarrod Sammut and Jarrad Stack, remain on the sidelines.

And he is waiting to check on Brett Carter, Karl Olstrom and Oliver Gordon who all picked up knocks against Sheffield.

“I don’t have any avenues to make wholesale changes and I am not one to do that after just one game,” said Veivers. “The guys need to get a chance to redeem themselves.”

Dewsbury coach Glenn Morrison is waiting to see if loose forward Aaron Brown and prop Jack Teanby will be fit to face Town.

Brown had to leave the field in the 26-24 victory over Swinton last weekend with a recurrence of an old knee problem while Teanby took a knock to the head and could not finish the game.
