St Benedict’s took a commanding lead at the top of the North Lancs Cumbria League as they put Silloth to the sword with a 57-0 win at Jim Brough Rugby Park.

Having beaten Silloth 43-0 a week earlier, Benny's started the game on the front foot and it was clear from the kick-off that complacency wasn’t going to be an issue.

Within five minutes they were on the scoresheet as Kurt Maudling split the defence after the ball was worked to the backs from a scrum.

Dan Rayson was wide with his conversion attempt but Saints were up and running at 5-0.

Kurt Maudling went over for his second shortly after after collecting a chip over the defence by Rayson.

This was quickly followed by a try from Karl Drake as he powered over in the corner.

Rayson converted from the touchline for a 17-0 lead.

Two more tries followed as Saints took a 29-0 scoreline into half-time. Mike Hawley scored the bonus point try after finishing off a move and Gavin Maudling scored the pick of the first half-tries to put his side five scores ahead.

Kyle Hiddleston collected a kick from Silloth and chipped over the line, which he then collected, he found Hawley on his inside who then found Maudling who raced away to touch down.

As the second-half started, Saints made a number of changes and for the first 15 minutes were guilty of trying to score on every possession.

They were reduced to 14 men when Gordon Maudling as sent to the sin-bin for upending a Silloth forward.

Despite the disadvantage, Saints extended their lead after a Silloth mix-up near their own line.

Hiddleston pounced on the loose ball and he forced his way over, Rayson added the extras.

From the restart, the ball was moved up the blindside and quick hands between Scott Wood and Steve Nelson saw Wood race over from 25 metres out.

A conversion from Rayson moved Saints out to a 43-0 lead.

Saints hit 50 points soon after as Hawley collected his own grubber kick to score under the posts and the final try of the day saw Hawley secure his hat-trick after taking a flat ball from Wood.

Rayson kicked another conversion for a final score of 57-0.

Saints haven’t conceded a point since their fixture on January 9 and have scored 140 points without reply in three games. As a result, they are eight points clear at the top of the league with a game in hand.
