Workington Town skipper Graeme Mattinson will miss tomorrow’s big derby clash with neighbours Whitehaven.

Hooker Mattinson injured his shoulder in last weekend’s Challenge Cup clash at Leigh and the ex-Haven player is unlikely to feature over the Easter weekend.

This is a blow for the Town side, who will head to the Recreation Ground looking for their second Championship win of the season.

Town assistant coach Jonty Gorley said: “Graeme got caught in a tackle at Leigh and crushed his shoulder, so I don’t think he will play at all this weekend.

“We are not sure yet exactly how long he will be out for, just so long as he is right when he gets back.”

Town have named a 19-man squad, with Brett Carter, Jarrad Stack and Karl Olstrom all included, after missing out on the trip to Leigh.

The trio were all carrying knocks and will be assessed before a final team is decided.

Gorley admitted this was going to be a tough test, especially with Haven’s recent form.

“Credit where credit is due they have got some good wins, especially going to Sheffield and beating them,” said Gorley.

“Then last week in the cup, to run Batley so close, they certainly must be doing something right.”

Haven have opted not to play any of their dual registration players for tomorrow’s derby.

They have named ex-Town star Elliott Miller in their squad after resting him for the Batley clash due to a niggling injury he picked up at Sheffield.

John Paul Brocklebank is also in the squad but there is still a doubt about his fitness.

Meanwhile, Ryan Duffy and Liam Carberry are both set to make their home debuts.

“Sam Brooks is in the Widnes squad this week and he was the only dual reg player we might have used,” said Haven coach James Coyle.

“Our lads are playing well and if you are doing that then you keep your shirt.”
