David Allen Financial Services sponsored the two-day Harraby Catholic Club event which was held at the Harraby Community Complex.

The matches were played on its 3G football pitches and, over the two days, around 600 young footballers took part, with each player being presented with a medal at the conclusion of their specific tournament.

The medals were sponsored by KJW Window Cleaners, while bottles of water were provided by the local Co-operative Society, Central Avenue, Harraby.

Saturday morning was particularly busy with age groups of Under-7s, Under-8s, Under-9s and Under-10s taking part.

There were eight teams in each age group, split into two groups of four with the Under-7s and Under-8s playing five-a-side and the Under-9s and Under-10s playing seven-a-side with roll-on, roll-off substitutes.

In addition to local teams, both Cleator Moor Celtic and Whitehaven each entered two teams in the Under-7 event. The Cleator Moor Club also had two Under-10 teams taking part, while Penrith Panthers had an Under-13 team playing on Sunday afternoon.

On Saturday afternoon, there was a special penalty shoot-out for the Harraby Catholic Dribblerz, a group of local children aged from two to six which was great fun for both children and grown-ups. The young penalty takers all received a medal to proudly show to their friends and relatives.

Four teams played in a nine-a-side competition at Under-11s which was won by Unisun Athletic who defeated Pirelli and Crown Newlaithes, before they won 3-1 against Carlisle City Blues in the final.

Sunday was a lovely sunny day and the morning was taken up by the five Under-14 teams playing each other once in nine-a-side games of 15 minutes with roll-on-roll-off substitutes.

Abbeytown won the group with two wins and two draws and met Dalston JFC in the final.

The two teams had drawn 0-0 in their first meeting but Abbeytown outplayed Dalston in the final winning 4-0. Abbeytown played four matches without conceding a goal.

Carlisle United were one of eight teams which played in the Sunday afternoon Under-13 competition.

They won their group to reach the semi-finals where they were beaten 1-0 by Workington who finished second in their group behind Northbank who they had equally shared two goals with in their group match.

Northbank earned a 1-0 semi-final victory over Carlisle City Whites to meet Workington in the final.

On their way to the final, Northbank had beaten Abbeytown, Penrith Panthers and Carlisle City White without conceding a goal. In fact, Workington were the only team to score against them so an exciting final was anticipated.

As it turned out, Northbank were the better team in the final game and they beat Workington 2-0.

Saturday’s winners were Harraby Catholic Under-7s with Whitehaven Blue the runners-up, Gillford Park Under-8s with Northbank as runners-up and Calthwaite Under-9s with Pirelli the runners-up. The winner of the Under-10 section was Carlisle City with Cleator Moor Celtic coming second.

The Tournament was well organised and the games were both competitive and played in the right spirit.
