A delighted Cleator Moor Celtic manager Dene White admitted it was "a whole different level" of football for his players on Tuesday night as they beat a youthful Carlisle United side in the Cumberland Cup.

The Wearside League outfit secured a 2-0 win over the Blues at Brunton Park to progress.

And Cleator boss White was thrilled with his side's performance.

He said: "The players stuck to the game plan, they did what I asked them to do and, if you work hard, you get what you deserve."

The away side were denied a penalty in a goalless first half.

"Unfortunately, we're used to not getting decisions," said White.

"But, at the end of the day, we've just got to get on with it."

Cleator Moor did open the scoring on the hour mark, however, through Stuart Shaw's header.

White said: "I thought we deserved to go ahead, to be honest.

"I thought our open play was good and we created some decent chances."

Cleator killed off Carlisle late on as Leigh Dunn converted a rebound after Darren Little's penalty hit the post - not that his manager knew much about it.

White said: "I never watch penalties.

"They told me someone had scored it on the rebound but I never watch."

Cleator's victory was celebrated by a vocal travelling support and White added: "Cleator Moor must be empty."

The Cleator Moor manager is now targeting a run in the Cumberland Cup, having seen off the biggest club in the competition.

He said: "I said at the start to the players, I want to be in as many competition as we can come May.

"We want to be in this as much as anyone else."
