Carlisle United legend Peter Murphy has been appointed the new manager of Annan Athletic.
It is a first step into management for the 36-year-old, who succeeds Jim Chapman at the Scottish League Two club.
Murphy's appointment was confirmed today by the Galabank outfit.
The defender, who spent the last three seasons with Ayr United, intends to continue playing.
The Dubliner, who is Carlisle's record outfield appearance maker, has signed a two-year deal with the option of a third.
In a statement, Annan said: "Peter brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to the task and we look forward to our new journey on and off the park commencing immediately."
Annan, who lost out in last season's promotion play-offs to Forfar, have been seeking a new boss since Chapman's departure to Clyde two weeks ago.
Murphy said: "It's a very exciting opportunity and challenge."
