Keith Curle's team are not the only side at Carlisle United to be in record-breaking mood.

For the club's women's team have also set a new landmark - after racking up their biggest ever win.

A day after Curle's men had made United' longest ever unbeaten start to a league campaign, Tracy Gannon's team thrashed Academy Juniors 16-0.

The emphatic result saw them cruise into the second round of the Argyle Sports Kit Cup.

The rout included an eight-minute hat-trick by Emma Blenkinship, with eight other players also involved in the goalscoring.

It was their second heavy victory against the Bolton-based Academy side this season, having already beaten them 8-1 in the league.

The Lady Cumbrians were 9-0 up at half-time before increasing their victory margin further after the break.

Manager Gannon said: “I’m very pleased with the win.

"It’s always good to get through to the next round of the League Cup and I’m happy for the girls who scored - a reward for the hard work over the last few weeks.”

Blenkinship led the scoring with her early hat-trick with Erin Marley (two), Eve Driver, Imogen Longcake (two) and Sharina Robinson on target in the first 45 minutes.

Chelsea Nevison made it 10 after the break, with Robinson again on target before Gillian McGimpsey, Nevison, Driver, Clare Almond and Cally Martin completed the victory at Creighton Rugby Club.
