Bransty Rangers pulled off the shock of the week in the Benevolent Cup Semi-Final over Premier Division side Netherhall.

After the game was switched to Whitehaven Amateurs’ astroturf, it was Bransty who got off to a great start after four minutes. Stewart O’Pray took on the defender and he squared it for Kyle Jenkins who slotted home from six yards to give the home side the lead.

This woke Netherhall up and they started to dominate possession, but had the ball in their own half with Bransty’s defence holding firm.

Netherhall did eventually break through on 36 minutes when a ball eluded the Bransty defence and substitute Cameron Harker headed home the equaliser to make it 1-1 at half-time.

Bransty re-took the lead on 69 minutes when Tom Smith’s ball found Jamie Brady at the back post whose header came back off the bar and it was Jamie Thursby who slotted home to make it 2-1 to Bransty.

It was a good team performance from Bransty who now meet Silloth in the final after they strolled past Aspatria in the second semi-final to claim a 7-3 victory.

A brace each for Andrew Trestianu and Graeme Dixon got things rolling with Reece Blake, Nico Watt and Adam Carr also netting for Silloth, while Sean Law, Richard Hudson and Matt Prior replied for Aspatria.

In the Smurfit Kappa Premier Division, leaders Workington Athletic brushed visitors Mirehouse aside 9-0 and extended their lead at the top.

In Division One, Borough entertained Whitehaven Amateurs on Tuesday night and won 6-2. All remaining games fell to the weather.
