Manager Jim Chapman feels Annan Athletic's goalless draw against East Stirlingshire at Galabank was a game of two halves.

Lowland League outfit East Stirlingshire started very impressively and their best spells of the game came during the first half.

The Galabankies, who beat the same opposition in the Betfred Cup 2-0 earlier this season in July through goals from Ryan Finnie and Max Wright, hit back after the restart.

Jean Guy Lucas fired narrowly wide, before the French player sent in a cross to Darren Ramsay that the former Rangers youngster failed to stroke home.

But neither side could find a winning goal.

"People keep telling us, we are involved in games of two halves," said Chapman, speaking to Annandale TV.

"I think on Saturday, they were right.

"In the first half, I didn't even recognise my team. They were nothing like the team that has done quite well in the first quarter of the league campaign."

"The second half was a wee bit better," he added.

"East Stirlingshire were probably disappointed they didn't take the lead in the first half and we are disappointed that we didn't capitalise on our chances in the second half.

"I think both teams will regret missed chances at the time they were on top and we live to fight another day."

The former Dumbarton, Albion Rovers and Kilmarnock Ladies boss admitted he will be looking for a better performance from his players in the replay.

That will take place at Ochilview next Saturday (3pm kick-off).

He said: "But we fell below the standards we've set.

"And that's why you can be disappointed because we know we are much better than that."

The two sides also met at the end of last season, with Craig Tully's men claiming a 3-1 victory that scuppered Annan's chances of making the Scottish League Two play-offs.

This term, Annan are currently in sixth place in the league table, but just a point off fourth and a potential play-off place.

Annan's Academy were also in Scottish Youth Cup action against Hearts at the weekend.
