East Stirlingshire have been drawn at Annan Athletic in round two of the Scottish Cup.

The Galabankies will be favourites against John Sludden’s men, who were relegated from Scottish League Two last term.

But they have put themselves in a decent position to bounce back into the Scottish Football League at the first time of asking and are currently in fifth position on 16 points from nine games in the Lowland League.

Annan will also have home advantage for the tie, which is something that has pleased the Galabankies manager.

Jim Chapman said: “The thing you want to get in the early stages of the cup is a home draw.

“But the one thing you cannot do is be complacent.”

In the group stages of the Betfred Cup, the two sides have already played each other this season.

Chapman’s men claimed a 2-0 victory at Ochilview Park through goals from substitute Ryan Finnie and Max Wright.

That was Annan’s only win in Group F of the Betfred Cup as they were defeated by Premier League opponents Rangers (2-0) and Motherwell (3-1), while they lost 2-1 at home to Stranraer.

Meanwhile, East Stirlingshire failed to pick up a single point in the group and ended with a goal difference of minus 10.

But Chapman will not be reading too much into the clash between the two teams, earlier this season when they meet in round two of the cup.

“I am sure both teams have improved dramatically since then,” he said.

“They will be looking to bounce back from relegation last season, this season.

“It will be a totally different game. What happened before is just water under the bridge now.”

Chapman added: “I think it will be a typical cup game and one thing we cannot do is be complacent.

"There is always a cup upset and the lads just need to make sure it is not us.

“But, in the latter stages, we will want it to be us causing upsets. It works both ways.

“We will be prepared.”

Meanwhile, Annan’s young squad have made a mixed start to their 2015/16 campaign.

They are currently in sixth place on nine points from seven games.

Chapman had to undertake a major overhaul of his squad during the close-season.

Boss Chapman has added the likes of former Carlisle United youngster Aaron Bradbury, ex-Motherwell man Adam Asghar and Tony Ribeiro to his squad.

That came after last season’s talisman Peter Weatherson left the club alongside former midfielder Ryan McStay, with the pair leaving to take over at Shettleston Juniors.

Midfielder Matt Flynn also left Galabank to join Clyde, while Smart Osadolor joined Stranraer.

But Chapman wouldn’t comment any further on last week’s transfer tribunal regarding the transfers of Josh Todd and Jordan Hart.

The pair both left the Galabankies in the summer, with midfielder Todd joining Ladbrokes Championship outfit Dumbarton and 20-year-old stopper Hart linking-up with Scottish League One play-off winners Ayr United.

Annan travel to Elgin City, who are currently third in Scottish Football League, but only three points ahead of the Galabankies, on Saturday afternoon.
