Carlisle United plan to launch their own TV station to try and tap into both the domestic and overseas audiences.

The Blues are set to make significant changes to their in-house media output.

And a Carlisle United TV operation is part of the plan, it has emerged.

It will see the Blues follow the lead of a number of other clubs who have expanded their official channels in such a way in recent years.

And it will coincide with the end of the current deal with the EFL over the club’s website design.

United will be able to take greater control of their own output from next season with a new website and streaming possibilities in the pipeline.

Full details are yet to be revealed but an article in The Athletic confirmed the plan.

Blues chief executive Nigel Clibbens also noted that United were receiving more online interest from Florida – the home state of new club owners the Piatak family.

Clibbens said: “From a low base, we are seeing an increase.

“Especially in the Florida area. We are seeing people start to subscribe because there is this club in the UK with a connection to their community.”

United’s plans also coincide with the new EFL broadcast deal which will see at least 20 Blues games streamed on Sky from next season.

The League and Sky have confirmed the new Sky Sports + service which will see a significant increase in the number of EFL games available to subscribers.

It will effectively spell the end of the club’s iFollow streaming service for UK-based Blues fans.

Clibbens added: “I’d say this is a great deal for most clubs.

“At Carlisle, we will lose significant income from iFollow and have the increased costs of setting up our own operations.”

United, in a statement last night, gave an enthusiastic welcome to the new Sky/EFL deal, saying they will be about £130,000 better off than they would have been through iFollow alone in League Two.
