A look at some of the latest news and gossip from around Carlisle United’s division…

EVANS BACK IN HOT WATER

Stevenage boss Steve Evans, who brings his side to Brunton Park on Saturday, is back in disciplinary hot water.

The manager has just served a three-game touchline ban.

But he is facing further sanction having been charged with “allegedly breaching the terms of his suspension” at Stevenage’s defeat to Peterborough earlier this month. He has until Thursday to respond.

ROYALS STAFF ‘DON’T FEEL SAFE’

Some staff at crisis club Reading “don’t feel safe” enough to stay, head coach Ruben Selles admits.

The Royals and their fans are hoping for news on a possible takeover soon amid the controversial stewardship of Dai Yongge.

“We cannot continue coping with the chaos and uncertainty that is making people leave us,” said Selles after the recent win over Cambridge United.

“Someone from the medical staff this week asked to go to another club because people want to feel safe and we are not making our people feel safe.”

POSH CHIEF LAMBASTS PL

Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has described the stalemate in hopes for a new financial support plan from the Premier League to EFL as “cruel”.

A proposed £900m deal has stalled, leading to criticism from clubs down the pyramid.

MacAnthony, speaking on his Hard Truth podcast, said: “I’d love to get in a room with the 20 Premier League clubs and get them to explain their thought processes. Our product is inter-twined. They know [the support package] is the right thing to do. It's fundamentally wrong not to do it. It’s actually cruel.”

OS HAND DEAL TO YOUNG GUN

Leyton Orient have handed a professional deal to teenage forward Charlie Pegrum.

The 19-year-old has come through the Os’ youth system and is now under contract until 2026, having made his first-team debut this season.

"I've been at the club for six or seven years now, and this is all I've ever wanted,” he told the club website.

RAMS COACH HIT WITH BAN

Derby County coach Matt Hamshaw has been hit with a touchline ban.

It follows his sending-off at half-time in the Rams’ 3-0 win over Bristol Rovers earlier this month.

Hamshaw was dismissed for his reaction after a Derby goal was disallowed for offside. He admitted a misconduct charge and has also been fined £500.

COBBLERS STAR EYES NEW DEAL

Northampton Town midfielder Shaun McWilliams says he wants to remain at the club beyond this season.

The long-serving player’s deal is up in the summer.

McWilliams, speaking to the Northampton Chronicle & Echo, said: “I think myself and the club both know where we stand and I’m not in a place where I want to leave so we’ll see how it plays out.”

SHREWS’ SURVIVAL TARGET

Shrewsbury Town boss Paul Hurst is not taking League One safety for granted despite the boost of beating Carlisle United last weekend.

The Shrews are nine points above the drop zone in 17th place.

“There’s still work to do, it’s not over. I’m not here thinking ‘That’s it’,” Hurst told the Shropshire Star.

CAMBRIDGE BOSS KEEPS FAITH

New Cambridge United manager Garry Monk believes results will improve after a double-whammy kept them in relegation trouble.

The U’s have lost 6-0 and 4-0 in their last two games against Lincoln City and Reading respectively. They are one place and four points above the drop zone having played a game more than fourth-bottom Cheltenham Town.

“We have to try and keep the boys’ heads up,” Neil Harris’s successor told his club’s outlets. “I believe results will change. If we can take out these silly mistakes we’ll be a lot harder to beat in games.”Top of Form
