Paul Simpson says Carlisle United are determined to give their huge travelling support at Bolton Wanderers a day to remember.

A following of about 4,500 will back the Blues at the Toughsheet Community Stadium.

It is the first opportunity for United fans to visit Bolton’s ground, the only previous trip coming in the behind-closed-doors Covid season of 2020/21.

A memorable away day is in store against Ian Evatt’s high-fliers – and Simpson wants it to be a positive one on the pitch to reward those supporters.

“It’s absolutely fantastic,” said Simpson.

“We didn’t have stadiums like the Bolton ground in League Two, and we’ve earned the right to do it.

“We’ve got to go and play, to earn the right like we did against Peterborough, go and compete like we did, and hopefully we’ll get a little bit more luck.

“We’ve got so much going on at the minute, so many good things. I totally accept my team are not getting the results everybody wants, I understand all of that.

“We are trying everything we possibly can to get results. On Tuesday [the 1-1 draw with Peterborough] they’ve seen we had sleeves rolled up and we’re having a right good go at it.

“This weekend we have to make sure that the pleasure we take out of a 95th minute equaliser, in terms of the momentum and belief we can take from that, [leads to us] doing it against another good team.

“We have to take it into Bolton and give that 4,000+ support something to be proud of again.”

It is another tough test in prospect with Bolton sitting third in League One after ten games.

Evatt’s side, who include ex-Carlisle players Kyle Dempsey and Jack Iredale, have won four, drawn one and lost one on home soil.

United, meanwhile, are seeking only a second win of the league season and a first away from home.

But the Cumbrians are buoyed by their dramatic fightback on Tuesday when Jordan Gibson’s injury-time goal earned a point many felt was deserved after Carlisle were denied a string of strong penalty claims.

“We have to use it,” added Simpson of the comeback. “It would have been horrible if it had been another defeat going into another tough game at Bolton.

“We earned another good point - and we did earn it, it’s not luck. One thing I’d say is we need to keep going, and go into what will be a tough game at Bolton on Saturday, a game we’ve earned the right to be involved in, and make sure we do ourselves justice.”

Simpson has reported no fresh injury concerns with Ben Barclay possibly in line to make his comeback against Nottingham Forest’s Under-21s in next Tuesday’s EFL Trophy game.

Bolton, who have won their last three games in league and cup, could welcome back frontman Victor Adeboyejo from injury, but former United defender Gethin Jones is suspended.
