Peterborough United boss Darren Ferguson has warned his team not to give Carlisle United’s fans any encouragement tonight.

The Posh manager says the Blues supporters can be a strong factor at Brunton Park.

And he does not want the Cumbrian faithful to have reason to hit their vocal heights in this evening’s League One clash.

“They [Carlisle] did very well last season, winning at Wembley. Paul [Simpson]’s an experienced manager – and it’s a hard place to go,” said Ferguson.

“Their fans are good once they get them up. We’ve got to make sure we manage that part of the game.

“It’s a big pitch, they play a certain way, we’ve had a good look at them and know what do to against them.

“But as in any game we’ve got to start the game right, with the basics as we did on Saturday, and hope to get a bit of quality.”

Peterborough sit fifth in the table after four unbeaten league games and six without defeat in all competitions.

They continued their strong form with a 2-0 home win over Bristol Rovers on Saturday.

Tonight’s trip is their first to Carlisle for nearly ten years.

And Ferguson does not want the fact it is a long midweek trip for his team to be any excuse for a below-par performance.

“It is what it is. It was sod’s law we’d get them on a Tuesday night. They’ve got to come to us on a Tuesday night,” Ferguson told Posh+

“There will be no excuses on that front. We know it’s a long journey. We’ve got to be professional.”

Ferguson, who is in his fourth spell in charge at Peterborough, is without Hector Kyprianou tonight due to suspension.

But Peter Kioso returns from a ban, while, Ferguson expects Kwame Poku and Joel Randall both to be involved despite knocks.
