Former Carlisle United frontman Harry McKirdy's impressive form for Swindon Town has landed him a player of the month nomination.

McKirdy is on the four-man shortlist for the League Two prize for January.

The ex-Blues attacker scored six league goals in five games last month - four of them coming in one game against Northampton Town.

He also found the net against Manchester City in the FA Cup.

His nomination further underlined McKirdy's resurgence after spending last season on the margins at Port Vale.

He has scored 13 goals in 30 games since joining Swindon last summer and will return to Brunton Park to take on his former club on February 19.

McKirdy's citation for the EFL award refers to the 24-year-old's "elusive running and infectious enthusiasm" and his "poacher's finishes".

Also shortlisted for the January prize are Forest Green Rovers' Luke McGee, Tranmere Rovers' Lee O'Connor and Newport County's Dom Telford.

The manager of the month award is contested by Mansfield Town's Nigel Clough, Bristol Rovers' Joey Barton, Froest Green's Rob Edwards and Stevenage's Paul Tisdale.

McKirdy, meanwhile, has also been shortlisted for the PFA Vertu Motors Fans' Player of the Month award for January.

He goes up against Newport's Telford plus Jordan Bowery of Mansfield Town, Stevenage's Jake Taylor and Forest Green Rovers pair Matty Stevens and Jamille Matt.

The former Aston Villa man was with United in the 2019/20 season, top scoring with 11 goals in 38 appearances.
