James Tose is refusing to get carried away despite Carlisle City topping Hallmark Security League, First Division North.

The Sky Blues moved back to the top on Wednesday night with their 5-3 success over Cumbrian rivals Holker Old Boys. City are two points ahead of second-placed Longridge Town but have played one league fixture more.

And Sky Blues boss Tose says he is just taking it one game at a time with less than a third of the season played, ahead of today’s trip to Shelley (3pm kick-off).

“You are just focusing on the next game,” he said. “At the end of the day, we are only in mid-October. We just need to keep plugging away.

“We haven’t been getting 5-0 or 6-0 wins. But we are getting positive results against the so-called bigger teams. We are more of a threat, which is good.

“And in the last couple of games [ahead of the Holker Old Boy fixture], we have got clean-sheets which shows we can do that side of the game, too.”

In-form Rob McCartney scored a hat-trick at Rakesmoor Lane, moving on to 16 goals for the campaign.

“Bobby has always had goals in him. He had a really bad ankle injury when he left Gretna 2008,” Tose said.

“He put a bit of weight on, not much but he was a bit heavy.

“What he has done this season is trimmed down and focused on his speed work. He has that sharpness back.”
