Jockeys Rachel Richardson and Hayley Turner were the main winners at Carlisle Racecourse’s Ladies night.

The pair both claimed doubles, with Richardson and Carlisle trainer Tristan Davidson proving particularly popular winners last night.

Kingstreet Lady picked up the win in the Smarkets Handicap Stakes, the opening race of the night at Carlisle.

Ridden by Jane Elliott, Kingstreet Lady won at 11/2 ahead of second-placed B Fifty Two and Groundworker in third.

“She was drawn well,” said Elliott. “She jumped better than she has done in the past, and she stays well.

“It’s just nice ground out there.”

Jockey Turner and Admirality then claimed the second race of the evening, pipping Eastern Racer, as she recovered well after Dodgy Bob had stumbled at the start and caused problems for a number of other horses.

That victory earned JP Murtagh’s team £3,292 in prize-money with Admirality continuing the form that had earned her a career-best win in the 16-runner handicap at Fairyhouse 20 days ago.

Turner said: “I was a bit worried [after the start] because the horse was dragged, but we did well from there to recover.”

With £6,330 in prize-money on offer, in-form Whinmoor continued her good form in the five-horse Bet on the Premier League Smarkets handicap stakes.

Having already claimed three wins from six runs this year ahead of yesterday’s race at the Durdar Road track, jockey Faye McManoman and 11/4 joint favourite Whinmoor romped to yet another success.

Trainer Nigel Tinkler said: “He is a lovely little horse, he is so uncomplicated.

“He will have one more run this year. It’s great for Faye, as well.

“To be honest, it is quite a lot of pressure for her. But she gave a good ride.”

There was a popular local winner of the News & Star Amazing Lady Kerryanne Wilde Handicap Stakes, with Richardson claiming the victory on board Island Song as she backed up last year’s double.

“She gets some attention but it was worthwhile for days like today,” said a delighted Carlisle trainer Davidson who had made his mark at Cartmel in June previously.

“At Beverley, she was a bit riled up, but she settled well. She is improving all the time.”

Turner made it a double as she romped home with Royal Shaheen for Hawick-based trainer Alistair Whillans to get her second win of the evening.

The Nottingham jockey guided the 4/1 joint-favourite to finish comfortably ahead of second-placed Amood and Jacob Black in third spot.

At the start of the Best Premier League odds on Smarkets class five handicap stake, there was a delay with Perla Blanca refusing to enter the gate.

But that didn’t seem to bother 2-1 favourite Rubenesque who completed their own double for Richardson – for the second successive year - and Davidson, again to the delight of the crowd.

Richardson said: “It’s fantastic. I felt pretty confident but it was nice to get the double.”

In the final race of the night, 28/1 shot Bogardus came from behind to take second-placed Mitcd and deny Richardson an extraordinary treble.
