The smart terraced property features a living room running the full width of the property, four bedrooms and attractive landscaped gardens.

Nick and Jessica Rigg bought the house, to the east of Carlisle city centre, 10 years ago.

"It was a nice development, newly built by Russell Armer Homes, and we moved here with starting a family in mind," Nick said. Since then he and Jessica have become parents to two children who are now aged eight and 18 months.

"Being newly-built when we moved in it was really just a shell of a house. We've added a fireplace and extended the patio," Nick said.

"The upstairs layout is amazing with four double bedrooms and a decent-size landing. The loft is huge; we've boarded it out and it's a great storage space."

He works as a football coach in primary schools and also tutors adults while Jessica is an occupational therapist. Their home, in St Joseph's Gardens, is ideal for commuting as it is just minutes from the M6. It is also no more than a 15-minute walk into the city centre.

The kitchen diner off to one side of the entrance hall has a range of wall and floor units and integrated appliances including fridge, dishwasher and oven and hob. A luxurious touch is the underfloor heating.

The integral single garage has an internal door located on the other side of the entrance hall and there is a convenient ground-floor toilet beyond the dining kitchen with the living room across the back of the house.

This 21ft room has a fire with wooden surround, two windows, a feature wall and large patio doors out to the back garden.

"We both like the kitchen in the winter," said Nick. "We turn on the underfloor heating and stay in there. In the summer the sun comes through the windows and it's very appealing.

"We also both enjoy the living room, it's big and you can have you own corner of it while the kids are playing without being too disturbed."

On the first floor the master bedroom has an en-suite shower room and the other three bedrooms share the three-piece family bathroom.

Outside is a low-maintenance front garden with a block-paved driveway providing extra parking in addition to the garage. There is also a bin enclosure. The rear garden is fenced with an access gate at the back.

"It's tremendous in the summer, a bit of a sun trap," Nick said. "It was just rubble when we moved here and it's certainly not like that now. I'd love to take all the credit but Jessica's father Stephen Holmes is a retired gardener and he helped with the layout.

"We extended the patio so we can have a larger area for entertaining, added a water butt for collecting rainwater, installed a shed, laid grass then created a border with low-maintenance plants and shrubs.

"We've very much enjoyed living here. It's quiet and private, we're in a cul-de-sac on a raise so there's no chance of flooding and we have good neighbours.

"But as we're both from Kendal we want to return to a more rural lifestyle. I grew up next to open fields and woodlands and we'd like our children to experience that."
