Heavenly hideaway on Lake Windermere

Imagine waking up in a luxury boathouse and taking in a panoramic Lake District view from your bed. Set in secluded woodland on Windermere’s lake shore, Storrs Hall boathouse has everything you need for the perfect hideaway.

This private getaway includes mood-lighting, a Sonos music system, bespoke fixtures and fittings and blinds controlled via an iPad.

Every detail of the boathouse has been designed to make the most of the view of Windermere and the fells beyond the lake.

The American black walnut bed and the Keuco bath both face the view, and there’s even a personal CCTV system so guests can see outside when the blinds are closed. The accommodation includes a 50in television but with views this good, it may prove surplus to requirements.

Outside, you’ll find a private hot tub and a firepit on the terrace overlooking the lake.

This luxury Lake District retreat opened for business last September following a £500,000 refurbishment of the 200-year-old Grade II*-listed building.

Mark Hindle, owner of Storrs Hall, said they had created the perfect holiday destination for guests who wanted total privacy with the facilities offered by the hotel.

“Guests will be able to relax in total peace in the most luxurious surroundings and have all the facilities of Storrs Hall on their doorstep – but only if they want them,” he said.

“If they want to hide away and not speak to anyone for a week, that’s fine. We’ll bring everything they need to their door, from stocking their fridge with the exact wines they want, to delivering and serving dinner from the restaurant or arranging a barbecue on the private terrace.”

Guests access the boathouse via a keypad at the property’s own gates. If they choose to dine at the hotel, they can either walk through the grounds or be chauffered in a golf buggy. Hunter wellies are provided, as are cosy Harris Tweed blankets to keep guests warm on cooler Cumbrian evenings.

Inside the boathouse, a huge spa shower doubles as a steamroom, and the bathroom comes equipped with complimentary full-sized products from the Bath House in Sedbergh. Guests are also provided with a mini-afternoon tea on arrival and a well-stocked food hamper.

The transformation of the boathouse is part of a larger renovation project at Storrs Hall by the Hindle family. Since 2013, the public areas and all 30 bedrooms have been refurbished. Further renovation work is planned on the 17-acre estate including the self-catering lakeside lodges.
