WE shared the news that plans have been put forward to turn a former pharmacy into a takeaway in Carlisle.

The sui-generis application for 6 Petteril Bank Road was submitted to Cumberland Council on April 2.

It has been put forward to the planning authority by Mr Gharehdaghi.

The plans indicate the selected site is for the currently vacant Boots pharmacy in Harraby.

Here's what readers thought.

Marilyn Queen said: "Pharmacy is more important than a takeaway, what about people who get medication every day," as Sarah Wilson agreed, stating: "I agree there is a pizza shop and Chinese right next to each other. A pharmacy would be better as Central Avenue has seen an influx of new customers having to travel over to collect their prescriptions, when as said pharmacy was on their doorstep it was much easier."

Claire Griffiths commented: "They need to reopen the chemist," and Muriel Hagan also said locals "need the chemist back".

Derek John Blythe said: "Too many takeaways and barber shops."

Lillian Odell, Maureen Loughran, Beverley Thomson and Ellen Louise Mccleary also agreed that the community needed a chemist.

The planning application details operating hours from 5pm - 11pm most days, and 4pm - 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

The proposal also suggests the venture could employ between seven and 10 people.
