Pub chain confirms Cumbrian bar to close down

The Curwen Arms in Workington will close on Monday.
Scottish and Newcastle Pub Company confirmed that the pub on Bridge Street would close and that its current licensee Margaret Ray has decided to concentrate on running her other pub, the Ship Inn on Washington Street.
The Curwen, which is the traditional celebration venue for the Uppies after the annual Uppies and Downies games, was put up for lease on October 22.
The pub has a beer garden and has private accommodation upstairs.
Anyone looking to lease the pub would need capital of £10,000.
Mrs Ray, who holds the licence for the pub, was unavailable for comment.
