Unions to meet workers as 40 jobs set to go at Cumbrian depot

Union officials are set to meet workers following an announcement that up to 40 jobs could be lost in Penrith.

Phoenix Healthcare Distribution Ltd is understood to have broken the news of redundancies to staff at its depot on the town’s Gilwilly Industrial Estate last week.

Union USDAW, which represents staff, is now working with employees.

A spokesman said that the losses would have a “devastating” impact on the small community, particularly so close to Christmas.

However, the company has not yet released any official statement about the potential losses.
