UB40 to play Carlisle's Sands Centre

UB40 today announced they will play Carlisle’s Sands Centre later this year.

The reggae giants are extending their biggest UK tour for over three years and will come to Carlisle on November 27.

Tickets will go on sale on Friday.

Arts and events manager Jonathan Higgins said they had been working for several weeks to secure the band.

“I’m really pleased that we’ve been able to persuade this iconic band to pay us a visit,” he added.

UB40’s Robin Campbell said they had suffered setbacks, including health issues, recently and were not “itching to get on the road.”

UB40 formed in 1978, releasing their debut album Signing Off in August 1980 – considered by many to be one of the greatest reggae albums released by a British band.

It was the start of a career that has seen the band have over 40 UK top 40 hit singles and achieve sales of over 100 million records.

Tickets will cost £28.50 plus a booking fee and go on sale from 9am on Friday. Call 01228 633766 or book online at www.thesandscentre.co.uk.
