Two arrested after Carlisle man attacked and robbed

Two people have been arrested after a man was attacked and robbed in Carlisle.

Police and paramedics were called to Botchergate following reports of an assault.

A local man in his fifties suffered head injuries and was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle. His condition is said to be “fine”.

Police said items were stolen during the assault.

The incident happened at the junction with Princess Street at 8.15pm on Tuesday.

A 29-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman, both from Wigton, were arrested on suspicion of robbery and are helping police with their inquiries.

Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area to call them on 101.
