Suspended Cumbria police chief misses charity ride

Cumbria's suspended temporary chief constable pulled out of a charity cycle ride.

Stuart Hyde had been due to be among the competitors taking part in the Jennings Rivers Ride, raising money for Cumbria Community Foundation.

He had been one of the event’s bloggers, drawing attention to the cause.

But he was not among the riders who set off and finished from Keswick yesterday.

Mr Hyde was suspended from duty by Cumbria Police Authority on Thursday following a number of allegations of serious misconduct.

He has said he is “devastated” by the allegations and wants to continue in his job and clear his name.

Bernard Lawson, deputy chief constable of Merseyside Police, has taken over as chief constable temporarily.
