Suspected arson attack at Carlisle demolition site

Suspected arsonists struck near the former Lonsdale cinema in Carlisle.

Firefighters were called to the site where the old cinema is being demolished in Barton's Place, off Warwick Road, at around 2am on Wednesday.

Stuart Hook, watch manager at Carlisle fire station, said a gas cylinder on a cherry picker was believed to have been deliberately set alight.

An investigation is now underway and no one was hurt, he confirmed.
